On the subject of long weekends, yesterday the studio folks decided to play catch up.
We had an early call, and imagine my surprise when the phone rang at 7:30. 7:30! This is a TV show. I’ve never heard the phone ring before ten.
A Big Studio Exec was on the other end of the line, (I guess his assistant still doesn’t come in before ten), and he demanded to speak to a particular producer. No, he didn’t “ask;” he demanded.
I tried the producer’s office, but of course he wasn’t there. We’re lucky if we can get our producers in by lunch time. It’s like they’re still in college.
Next, I tried the producer’s cell, but he didn’t answer that, either. Probably too busy playing Halo or something. (Do they still play Halo in college?)
Anyway.
I got back on the line with the Exec and said, “I couldn’t reach him in his office or on his cell [because it’s seven-thirty in the goddamn morning, you maniac. You’re lucky I answered the phone.] Would you like me to take a message?”
“Nooooo [you idiot], I want you to track him down [now now now!]”
Seriously, he sounded like a child stamping his feet when someone takes away his baba. What does he want me to do, drive to the guy’s house?
I ask once again– Why do we need studio executives?
